Brothers Alistair Brownlee and Jonathan Brownlee are Olympic Speakers and triathlon champions whose performances captured the excitement and exhilaration of the audiences at the London 2012 Olympic Games. With a gold and a bronze medal in 2012, and a gold and silver in 2016 (Alistair becoming the first triathlete ever to defend his Olympic title), the Brownlee Brothers are not only two of the most impressive siblings in sport but are also some of the most sought-after sports speakers working in the after-dinner speaker circuit. After being introduced to triathlon by their uncle, the duo regularly began competing in various junior competitions. Alistair won the World Junior Championships in 2006, and Jonny became the British Youth Champion in both triathlon and duathlon in 2006 and 2007 respectively.
Throughout their professional career, Alistair made his Olympic debut in 2008. He secured first place at the 2009 ITU Triathlon World Championship, before becoming the winner of the Commonwealth Games Triathlon in 2014 and being named the European Elite Champion in 2011. Also enjoying a successful career, Jonny took bronze at the London 2012 Olympic Games. He also secured first place in the Mixed Triathlon Relay at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
One of the most notable moments in both brothers' careers occurred during the 2016 World Triathlon Series, when Alistair sacrificed the chance to win the race to help his exhausted brother over the finish line, resulting in Jonny finishing second, closely followed by Alistair. At the postponed 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, Jonathan claimed Olympic Gold in the Mixed Team Relay event. Both brothers have received honours for their services to sport: Alistair was appointed MBE in 2013, while Jonny was awarded his MBE in 2022. In 2025, Alistair was named on the King’s Birthday Honours list, receiving an OBE for services to triathlon and charity.
The intensive and varied training required to compete in and win triathlons have given Alistair Brownlee and Jonathan Brownlee a deep understanding of mental and physical commitment. The determination and drive needed to maintain both physical and mental strength are second nature to the Brownlee Brothers, and their work as Olympic Speakers covers this aspect of their lives. Together, the Brownlee Brothers are entertaining Olympic Speakers; their personalities complement one another well and the content of their work as after-dinner speakers is engaging and interesting. Their joint experiences at the London 2012 Games have given them a number of entertaining stories to share with those who watch them as Olympic Speakers, whilst the dedication and professionalism demonstrated by both Alistair Brownlee and Jonathan Brownlee make them genuinely inspiring sports speakers.
